๐ Where Is Indonesia?
Indonesia is a vast archipelago in Southeast Asia, lying across the Equator between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Its main islands are Sumatra, Java (home to Jakarta and more than half the population), Bali, Borneo (Kalimantan, shared with Malaysia and Brunei), Sulawesi and New Guinea (Papua, shared with Papua New Guinea). It also shares the island of Timor with Timor-Leste. Australia lies to the south.
Bali and Jakarta have the most international flights, and cheap domestic airlines link the islands; Bali to Labuan Bajo (for Komodo) is about an hour. Check the distance from your city with our distance calculator.
๐ Best Time to Visit Indonesia
Indonesia is warm all year (around 27โ32 ยฐC on the coast). The dry season, April to October, is the best time for Bali, Java, Lombok and Komodo, with July and August the busiest and most expensive months. The wet season, November to March, brings short heavy rain, green landscapes and lower prices; Bali is still very visitable. Raja Ampat and parts of eastern Indonesia have their own patterns, with October to April best for diving there. On Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence (usually March), the airport and the whole island close for 24 hours.
Best for Bali, Java, Lombok and Komodo.
Short tropical storms, green scenery and deals.
Calmer seas and the best diving conditions.
Bali's Day of Silence: the whole island shuts down for a day.

๐ก Safety & Travel Tips for Your Travel guide to Indonesia
Indonesia's tourist areas are generally safe. Indonesia is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, so follow volcano and earthquake alerts. Drug laws are extremely strict. Dress modestly away from the beaches, especially in conservative areas such as Aceh.
Required at Bali temples; often lent at the entrance.
For fair-priced rides and food delivery.
Many insurers won't cover scooter crashes otherwise.
Stick to sealed beer, wine or trusted bars.
For giving, receiving and eating.
