Chile runs down the western edge of South America between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the north-east and Argentina along the long eastern Andes border. It stretches from the Atacama Desert, the driest non-polar desert on Earth, through the central valleys to the glaciers and fjords of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.
