It borders Uganda to the north, Tanzania to the east, Burundi to the south and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, across Lake Kivu. The Virunga volcanoes rise in the north-west, while the east is lower savannah around Akagera.
Kigali has direct flights to Nairobi, Entebbe, Addis Ababa, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Brussels, Amsterdam and London. Check the distance from your city with our distance calculator.
๐ Best Time to Visit Rwanda
The best time to visit Rwanda is during the long dry season from June to September, when trails are less muddy for gorilla and chimp trekking and wildlife gathers at water in Akagera. A short dry season runs from mid-December to February. The rainy seasons (MarchโMay and OctoberโNovember) bring lush hills and fewer visitors. Thanks to the altitude, Kigali stays mild all year (about 20โ27 ยฐC). The gorilla-naming ceremony, Kwita Izina, is usually held in September.
