Laos is the only landlocked country in South-East Asia. It borders China and Myanmar to the north, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south and Thailand to the west, much of it along the Mekong River. Mountains and forests cover most of the north and east, while the south has the Bolaven Plateau and the 4,000 Islands of Si Phan Don.
