Honduras is in the heart of Central America, bordered by Guatemala to the west, El Salvador to the south-west and Nicaragua to the south-east. It has a long Caribbean coast to the north, with the Bay Islands (Roatán, Utila and Guanaja) on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system in the world, and a short Pacific coast on the Gulf of Fonseca.
